The search for an
Ocean Data Solution

Major energy and industrial organisations, as well as government agencies, rely on accurate, high-quality ocean data for a wide range of applications, from developing offshore infrastructure to supporting marine safety. Recognising an opportunity to transform how this data was acquired, James Ives founded XOCEAN in Ireland in 2017, developing a new approach centred on Uncrewed Surface Vessels (USVs). By combining remotely operated vessels with advanced communications and experienced onshore teams, XOCEAN set out to deliver ocean data more safely, efficiently and with a significantly reduced environmental impact.

James Ives - Chief Executive Officer

James Ives is the founder and CEO of XOCEAN and a leading advocate for the sustainable management of our oceans through data. He holds an Engineering Degree, is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of Engineers Ireland

Karen May - Chief Financial Officer

Karen is the CFO of XOCEAN and is on the board of directors. She is a Fellow Chartered Accountant with over 20 years financial experience including Price Waterhouse Coopers, National Treasury Management Agency, Treasury Holdings and OpenHydro.

Kevin Harnett - Chief Revenue Officer

Kevin is the CRO of XOCEAN. He was previously a senior technical manager at an offshore renewable energy developer. Prior to his current role, Kevin led the survey and operations teams at XOCEAN delivering surveys supporting the development of over 40GW of offshore wind capacity

Shep Smith - Chief Technology Officer

Shep is the CTO of XOCEAN. He served 28 years as a commissioned officer with NOAA in the US, where he rose to the rank of Rear Admiral as the Director of the Office of Coast Survey, where he oversaw the US national programs in hydrography and nautical cartography.

Lorraine McCullen - Chief People Officer

Lorraine is the CPO of XOCEAN, leading the development and execution of XOCEAN’s people strategy with a focus on international growth. With over 20 years HR management experience in the Aviation and Energy industries.

Graham Young - Chief Operating Officer

Graham Young is the COO at XOCEAN and has over 25 years in Operational Management across various industries, Graham brings a wealth of experience, strategic insight, and a dedication to driving operational excellence.

Our Locations

Our technical centres in Ireland and Australia host our global fleet of USVs. A team of highly qualified engineers, robotic experts and software developers ensure that our fleet of USVs are maintained to the highest standards whilst also producing new USVs to join our growing fleet. Our technical centres are a key element in achieving our target of displacing one million tons of carbon over the next 5 years through the delivery of carbon neutral ocean data.
